The Kansas Dept. of Health and Environment has sent out their immunization requirements for the 2010-11 school year. If your child has had regular check-ups with their health care provider they are most likely current on their immunizations, however, the following changes will apply. The Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine will be required: 2 doses for Kindergarten and grade 1; one dose required for grades 2-10 unless there is history of Varicella disease documented by a licensed physician. Two doses are currently recommended for all ages. Three doses of Hepatitis B are required through grade 10. A booster dose of Tdap (Tetanus with pertussis) is now required for those entering 7th grade.
The Johnson County Health Dept. has received funding to deliver over 6,000 Varicella doses free of charge. This would be a great opportunity for parents to get their children this vaccine at no cost. The vaccine will be available beginning Feb. 22, 2010. During spring break, the Olathe Clinic will have extended hours. Please check with Donna Lowther if you have any questions regarding your child's immunization requirements.
Parents, please return borrowed clothes that are given to your child during the school day. I have given many shirts, slacks, etc. out and have not received very many back.
All calls concerning absences, tardies, appoikntments and homework should be directed to extension 631-7730, ext. 4526. Voicemail is available 24 hours a day. This will help get the information to the teachers in a timely manner.
Any child who has a fever above 100 degrees is to remain home for 24 hours of normal temperature (without Tylenol) before returning to school. Students with the following symptoms are excluded from school.
* Temperature of 100
or above
* Severe colds,
coughing, sneezing
* Upset stomach,
vomiting, diarrhea
* Sudden appearance of
rash, uncomfortable skin conditions
* Suspicion of
contagious disease
* Red or discharging
eyes
