Preface The Computer Technology Subject Area Committee (SAC) has prepared this document for implementation in Kindergarten through Eighth grade in the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. The goal of the curriculum is to instill essential technical skills needed for life-long learning while maintaining high standards of Catholic education. This curriculum guide is not only a tool to develop essential technological skills, but a guide to developing ethical, Christian users. We recognize that technology is from God, and that we are stewards of His gift. The curriculum guide’s instructional framework is aligned with the ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for Students. Included are outcomes and performance indicators in a scope and sequence format and a glossary of basic terminology. In addition to the ISTE standards, a vital standard, Catholic Moral Standards in Technology, was included to assist in our mission as followers of Christ. A companion website is available at the Archdiocesan website which offers selected lesson plans to aid teachers in integrating technology skills with grade level outcomes. Facing a society that emphasizes information and communication, our educators must infuse technology into daily learning to empower our students as information seekers, navigators, evaluators, effective communicators, and most importantly, disciples of Christ. This curriculum is designed to set the groundwork for student success and responsibility as a Catholic citizen. This Computer Technology Curriculum Guide was presented to Kathy O’Hara, PhD., Superintendent of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, and Karla Leibham, Associate Superintendent, and has received their approval. This Curriculum Guide should be implemented to the extent possible in each school beginning in the Fall of 2004. *****
